NASS moves to Professionalize Legislative Aide’s status, Trains 3,500

In a significant move to enhance the professionalism of legislative aides, the management of the National Assembly has launched a comprehensive training initiative aimed at transforming the positions from temporary roles into recognized career paths.
Since its inception on August 5, 2023, the program has successfully trained around 3,500 aides across both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

During the opening ceremony for the 9th batch of trainees in Abuja, Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Mr. Kamoru Ogunlana, spoke about the vision behind the initiative.
He stated that the training is intended to equip aides with essential skills and knowledge, fostering a more permanent and respected role within the National Assembly.

“Our primary objective is to shift the perception of legislative aides from temporary appointments to lifelong career options,” Ogunlana remarked. He expressed optimism that with proper training and support, the aides could play a vital role in enhancing the legislative process in Nigeria.

Ogunlana further noted that the training serves not only as an educational opportunity but also as a foundation for reinforcing democratic principles in the country. He assured participants of the National Assembly Service Commission’s commitment to timely payments of their entitlements.

As the training progresses, Ogunlana urged the legislative aides to take advantage of this opportunity to deepen their understanding of parliamentary practices, thereby improving the quality of service they provide to the Nigerian populace.
This initiative reflects the National Assembly’s commitment to strengthening the capabilities and roles of legislative aides in governance, paving the way for a more effective legislative system in Nigeria.
