NAF Chief Visits Pilots Who Ejected Safely Before Jet Crash
Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke has visited the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) pilots who ejected moments before their Alpha Jet crashed near NAF Base Kainji, Niger State.
The incident occurred on Saturday, just after take-off, when the aircraft suffered a technical malfunction a few kilometres from Karabonde town in Borgu Local Government Area. Displaying exceptional skill and presence of mind, the pilots steered the jet away from residential areas before ejecting safely, averting what could have been a tragic disaster.
During his visit, Air Marshal Aneke praised the aircrew for their quick thinking and professionalism. “Their actions not only saved their lives but also protected nearby communities. This is a testament to the training and discipline of our personnel,” he said.
Both pilots are currently undergoing routine medical checks and are reported to be in stable condition. The NAF confirmed that its search and rescue, fire response, and medical teams acted swiftly to secure the crash site.
A board of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the technical failure and ensure lessons are learned to prevent future incidents. The Air Force reiterated its commitment to strict safety protocols and its responsibility to safeguard lives and property.
This episode underscores both the inherent risks of military aviation and the professionalism of Nigeria’s Air Force personnel, who remain vigilant even in life-threatening situations.
