Lagos Country Club Welcomes the New Year with Glitz, Glamour, Bold Vision for 2026

The Lagos Country Club (LCC) ushered in the New Year with a dazzling blend of pageantry, purpose, and forward thinking, as its annual New Year Party doubled as the unveiling of an ambitious 2026 Developmental Roadmap. The high-profile gathering brought together influential figures from Nigeria’s social, business, and professional spheres, setting an elegant tone for the year ahead.
Clad in refined evening wear, distinguished members and guests transformed the Club’s serene grounds into a lively hub of sophistication and camaraderie. The celebration was further elevated by the presence of His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the Akarigbo of Remo, and His Royal Majesty, Oba Lawrence Jayeoba, the Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo, whose attendance lent regal splendour and cultural depth to the modern festivities.
In his welcome address, LCC President, Mr. Seyi Adewunmi, reaffirmed the Club’s standing as one of Nigeria’s foremost institutions, describing it as far more than a social enclave.
“The Lagos Country Club is a vibrant ecosystem of over 3,000 members—individuals who represent the pinnacle of Nigeria’s elite and the engine room of our professional landscape,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2026, Adewunmi outlined a strategic agenda anchored on infrastructural renewal and an enhanced member experience. Central to this vision is the proposed Youth and E Section (YES), a state-of-the-art facility aimed at engaging younger members through technology, innovation, and contemporary recreation. He appealed for the support of the Lagos State Government, noting that the YES Project aligns seamlessly with broader objectives of youth empowerment and institutional sustainability.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Kolawole Oyefeso, praised the leadership for sustaining the Club’s high standards and rich traditions. Addressing new members, he described the Lagos Country Club as a legacy built by the collective sacrifices of past leaders, urging them to honour and advance that heritage.
Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Gbenga Omotoso, drew striking parallels between the Club’s resilience and the enduring spirit of Lagos State. Reflecting on the challenges of 2025—including the Great Nigeria Insurance House fire and a tragic maritime incident—he noted that Lagos demonstrated a rare capacity to rebound stronger.
The Governor’s message highlighted Lagos’ rising tourism profile and growing reputation as a global events destination, attributing this progress to the same “can-do spirit” that defines the Lagos Country Club. Members were encouraged to continue upholding the Club as a symbol of unity, harmony, and resilience—values that mirror the essence of Lagos itself.
A major highlight of the evening was the presentation of Special Awards to former members of the Management Council, in recognition of their years of dedicated and selfless service.
In a standout moment, the 2025 Resource Person Award was conferred on Mr. Segun Shonubi, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, for his exceptional commitment and strategic communication efforts, which significantly enhanced the Club’s visibility and public profile over the past year.
The night closed with vibrant entertainment, animated networking, and formal toasts to the Lagos Country Club, Lagos State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria—signalling a confident and celebratory beginning to what promises to be a landmark year for the Club.
