Lafarge Africa Launches ECOPlanet Elephant Cement, Deepens Green Building Revolution in Nigeria

In a bold stride toward sustainable construction and green innovation, Lafarge Africa Plc has expanded its low-carbon product range with the official launch of ECOPlanet Elephant Cement — a next-generation multipurpose cement offering 30% less CO₂ emissions without compromising performance.
Unveiled as an evolution of last year’s successful ECOPlanet Unicem, the new product strengthens Lafarge Africa’s commitment to building climate-resilient cities and promoting eco-conscious development across Nigeria and the continent.
“We are proud to now offer our low-carbon ECOPlanet Elephant cement, further empowering our customers to make environmentally conscious choices without compromising on quality,” said Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, Group Managing Director/CEO of Lafarge Africa Plc.
The cement, designed for plastering, block-making, and concreting, is already attracting interest from developers, architects, and policymakers. Supported by globally recognized sustainability certifications such as BREEAM, LEED, and EDGE, the product is being positioned as a game changer for Nigeria’s built environment.
Gbenga Onimowo, the company’s Commercial Director, highlighted the seamless transition the new cement offers:
“ECOPlanet Elephant maintains the strength and durability Elephant Cement is known for. This will fast-track adoption of sustainable practices without disrupting workflow or performance expectations.”
The product launch comes as part of Lafarge’s broader decarbonization strategy and its push to align the construction industry with global net-zero targets. As a subsidiary of Holcim, Lafarge Africa continues to champion innovative materials and circular construction models in the Nigerian market.
ECOPlanet Elephant marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward greener infrastructure, especially as the country faces intensifying environmental challenges.
Lafarge Africa — with operations across Ogun, Gombe, and Cross River States and Ready-Mix presence in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt — boasts a cement production capacity of 10.5 million metric tonnes per annum. The company remains a front-runner in delivering smart and sustainable building solutions to Africa’s largest economy.
Holcim, Lafarge Africa’s parent company, is a global leader in circular construction, innovation, and climate-conscious building solutions, operating across over 70 countries with 70,000 employees. Its mission to build progress for people and the planet is shaping the future of infrastructure and urban growth worldwide.
