Labour Party Vows Transparent Process for Anambra Gubernatorial Primaries

The Labour Party (LP) has reaffirmed its commitment to free, fair, and credible primaries ahead of the Anambra State gubernatorial election, ensuring a transparent process that upholds democratic values.

Speaking during the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday, LP National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, assured party members that the primaries would reflect the party’s core principles of fairness and merit-based leadership selection.
National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh in a statement quoted Abure to have emphasized that the Labour Party remains focused on doing things differently by eliminating godfatherism and fostering true competition among aspirants.
“If we must achieve a different outcome in governance, we must adopt a different approach. The Labour Party is committed to a political process where candidates emerge based on competence, not favoritism. This is the only way we can produce leaders capable of addressing Nigeria’s governance challenges,” he stated.

Addressing speculation that LP is working for another political party, Abure dismissed such claims as misinformation, affirming the party’s independence.
“Labour Party stands alone with a unique ideology and vision. We have built a formidable political platform that serves the people’s interests, and we will not compromise our values for any external influence,” he affirmed.
The party’s membership registration and revalidation exercise has recorded massive participation, prompting the NWC to extend the deadline to May 2025. Meanwhile, ward, local government, and state congresses are now scheduled for June and July 2025 to accommodate more participation.
The Labour Party reiterated that its vision for Nigeria revolves around accountability, transparency, and good governance. With Anambra’s election on the horizon, the party remains committed to setting a new standard for democratic leadership selection.
