Kogi Intensifies Fight Against Erosion, Flooding with New Infrastructure
By Friday Idachaba, Lokoja
The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling erosion and flooding through the deployment of sustainable infrastructure aimed at providing long-term solutions to ecological challenges across the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, disclosed this at the weekend in Lokoja, stressing that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration is determined to reshape the state with solution-driven projects that ensure safety, resilience and improved living conditions for citizens.
Fanwo noted that the newly constructed drainage systems in communities such as Etahi, Omigbo and Olubojo in Ankpa Local Government Area are already proving effective.

“Our drains are working as designed. Rainwater is being efficiently collected and channeled away, reducing the risk of flooding. Within minutes of every heavy rainfall, the water is soaked away, leaving communities safe and accessible,” he said.
He explained that the government is leveraging the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project to strengthen flood control efforts and reclaim lands degraded by erosion.
“Kogi ACReSAL, under the leadership of Barrister Ladi Jatto, has become a game-changing platform for us. We are maximizing the opportunities it offers to drive sustainable ecological solutions,” Fanwo added.
According to him, the initiatives reflect Governor Ododo’s vision of building resilient communities through proactive, sustainable interventions tailored to the state’s environmental realities.
“Kogi is no longer just reacting to ecological disasters; we are proactively deploying infrastructure that prevents them. This is a new dawn in our approach to flood control and environmental sustainability,” he declared.
