Kogi Govt Allays Fears Over Planned Attack, Urges Calm and Vigilance

The Kogi State Government has urged residents to remain calm and vigilant amid reports of a planned terrorist attack targeting parts of Kogi and neighbouring Ondo States.
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, in a statement on Monday, assured that the state government is on top of the situation, working closely with security agencies to prevent any breach of peace.
Fanwo described the intelligence alert issued by the Department of State Services (DSS) as a mark of professionalism and proactive intelligence gathering that reflects the growing capacity of Nigeria’s security architecture.
“The report itself is evidence that our security agencies are alive to their responsibilities. We commend the DSS for their vigilance and for providing early intelligence capable of preventing such evil plans from being executed,” Fanwo said.
He noted that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has reinforced surveillance and operational measures across the state, particularly in vulnerable border communities, to keep residents safe and maintain Kogi’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most secure states.
“The security of lives and property remains the top priority of this administration. Strategic operations have been intensified and security formations are working round the clock to ensure the state remains peaceful,” he added.
The Commissioner assured that the government would not allow criminal elements to undermine the progress recorded in recent years, noting that every intelligence lead is being thoroughly investigated and acted upon.
“Our message to residents is simple — don’t panic, don’t spread fear. Remain calm, stay alert, and promptly report any suspicious persons or movements to the nearest security post,” Fanwo said.
He further emphasized that early warning systems and inter-agency coordination have been activated to ensure the alleged terror plot is completely foiled before it poses any threat to lives or property.
“Kogi remains one of the safest states in Nigeria, and we intend to keep it that way. The Government will protect the people at all costs,” the statement added.
The call for calm follows heightened security alerts in parts of the North-Central region, with security operatives intensifying patrols and surveillance in flashpoint areas
