Jigawa PDP Reaffirms Strength, Conducts Smooth, High-Turnout LG Congress
By Ahmed Rufa’i, Dutse
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has sent a clear message of strength and resilience, successfully conducting its Local Government Congresses across the 27 council areas without incident.
Chairman of the Local Government Electoral Committee, Alhaji Sheriff Abdullahi, hailed the process as a model of internal democracy, citing impressive participation and strict adherence to party guidelines.
“We witnessed peaceful, orderly, and constitutional elections in every local government we visited,” he said during the collation of results at the party secretariat in Dutse.
Alhaji Sheriff, who is also the PDP’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Yobe State, praised the large turnout of party members, noting that it signals the PDP’s continued relevance among the people of Jigawa and beyond.
Commending the leadership of Alhaji Sule Lamido, the local organizing committee, and grassroots members, Sheriff described the exercise as “evidence that PDP remains deeply rooted and growing stronger.”
In his remarks, PDP leader and former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, declared the congress one of the most credible in the party’s history.
“The PDP today is a party for those with patience, vision, and discipline. It is not a platform for opportunists or those seeking quick gains,” he said.
Taking a swipe at recent political defections, Lamido stressed that the PDP’s foundation remains unshaken.
“Those defecting are simply seeking refuge for their ill-gotten wealth. Their exit does not weaken us; it purifies and strengthens our cause,” he added.
He urged members to remain committed and patient, insisting that “power belongs to the people” and the PDP is preparing to reclaim its place in Nigeria’s leadership.
Also speaking, the 2023 PDP gubernatorial candidate in Jigawa, Alhaji Mustapha Sule Lamido, commended the national headquarters for sending a professional and dedicated committee to oversee the congresses.
He encouraged members to stay united and focused.
“Victory is on the horizon. Let’s remain peaceful and resilient,” he said.
The congresses were held following the expiration of the tenure of the previous local government and state executives, ushering in a new generation of PDP leadership at the grassroots level.
