Jigawa Delegate Debunks Report of Disruption at Atiku–Obi Coalition Meeting

A delegate from Jigawa State, Auwalu Garba, has dismissed reports suggesting that the recent high-level coalition meeting held at the Abuja Continental Hotel ended in chaos, describing such claims as inaccurate and misleading.

The gathering, convened under the banner of the National Political Consultative Group (North), was designed as a strategic platform for fostering cross-party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections. It drew prominent figures from across Nigeria’s political spectrum, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Contrary to speculation, Garba stated that the meeting remained largely orderly and productive throughout.

“There was no disruption from the Jigawa delegation. What happened was a minor procedural misunderstanding,” he explained.

According to Garba, the issue arose over protocol regarding who was officially designated to speak on behalf of Jigawa State. While two individuals had been formally accredited to represent the state, a third attempted to make a contribution without proper clearance, leading to brief objections from participants.

He clarified that the situation was promptly and amicably resolved following interventions from senior stakeholders at the meeting. Ultimately, Mustapha Lamido—son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido—and another approved delegate were affirmed as the state’s official spokespersons.

Garba emphasized that the Jigawa delegation was not only well-organized but also fully committed to the broader objectives of the coalition.

“Make no mistake—the coalition is real,” he said.

The meeting ended with renewed optimism and a shared resolve to deepen collaboration among Nigeria’s key political actors in preparation for a unified front in 2027.
