Jigawa Cracks Down on Feeding Scandal, Sacks Contractors, Supervisors

The Jigawa State Government has dismissed several school feeding contractors and kitchen supervisors following allegations of fraud and misconduct in its feeding programme.
The action, announced by Awwalu D. Sankara, comes after a series of surprise inspections uncovered irregularities, including the diversion of food meant for students and hospital patients.
According to the government, the probe revealed widespread discrepancies in records, with some schools inflating student numbers to justify higher food allocations. At Government Junior Secondary School, Karkarna in Yankwashi, for instance, only 123 students were present despite official figures listing 257.
Inspections conducted across Kazaure, Roni, Gwiwa, and Yankwashi local government areas also exposed concerns over food quality, with reports of substandard supplies and failure to meet approved feeding standards.
As a result, four kitchen supervisors were dismissed for falsifying records, while two contractors were removed for supplying poor-quality food. Another contractor attached to Gwiwa Hospital was also sacked for skipping meals and failing to meet required obligations.
Additionally, two school officials are currently under investigation for allegedly collaborating to manipulate records at Government Girls Science Secondary School in Roni.
Sankara said the government would not tolerate any breach of trust, warning that those found culpable would face prosecution.
He added that unannounced inspections would continue across the state to ensure accountability and protect the integrity of the feeding programme, which is designed to support students and vulnerable patients.
