The Kogi State House of Assembly has commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his proactive and unparalleled efforts in tackling the rising security threats posed by armed bandits in the state.
The commendation came during plenary following the adoption of a motion moved by Hon. Bin Ebaiya Shehu-Tijani (APC–Lokoja I), calling for the formal recognition of the Governor’s commitment to securing the state.
Hon. Shehu-Tijani stated that the safety of lives and property remains the foremost duty of any responsible government, stressing that the recent surge in armed banditry across parts of the country and Kogi State, in particular, had demanded urgent and decisive action.
> “Governor Ododo has exhibited outstanding leadership by supporting joint military operations that have successfully dismantled criminal hideouts and restored peace to affected communities,” the lawmaker noted.
He further praised the collaborative efforts between the state government and security agencies, which he said had bolstered public confidence and helped curb banditry activities across the state.
Seconding the motion, Hon. Seyi Bello (APC–Kabba-Bunu) lauded the Governor’s focused attention on Bunu District and other vulnerable areas. Hon. Jibrin Abuh (APC–Ajaokuta) noted that security remains the bedrock of development and described the Governor’s actions as a firm reassurance of his commitment to protecting the populace.
In separate remarks, Hon. Bode Ogunmola (PDP–Ogori-Magongo) and Hon. Idris Aliyu Maikudi (APC–Koton-Karfe) thanked the Governor for restoring public peace and allowing citizens to “sleep with both eyes closed.”
In his ruling, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, described the motion as timely and reflective of the Governor’s strategic efforts to tame insecurity in the state.
The motion was unanimously adopted and passed by the House.
