In a Shaking Purge, PDP Drops Political Hammer, Expels Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has triggered a seismic shake-up within its ranks, using its 2025 National Convention in Ibadan to draw a clear line between loyalty and rebellion.
In a move that sent shockwaves across the party’s power blocs, the convention expelled some of its most controversial heavyweights — Nyesom Wike, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Ayo Fayose, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), Hon. Austin Nwachukwu and others — after months of internal tension and political brinkmanship.
But beneath the surface of the terse announcement lies a deeper story: weeks of behind-the-scenes negotiations, failed peace missions, and mounting pressure from grassroots delegates who insisted the party could not march toward 2027 with “serial offenders” undermining its cohesion.
Convention insiders revealed that the leadership had reached a breaking point, with evidence of “systematic sabotage” allegedly linked to some of the expelled members. By the time the matter reached the convention floor, the delegates’ verdict was swift and unanimous — a symbolic cleansing meant to signal that the PDP is done tolerating factions that pull the party in contradictory directions.
Party strategists say the expulsions mark the beginning of a deliberate reconstruction effort, aimed at stabilising the PDP’s internal machinery and repositioning it as a disciplined, unified contender ahead of future national battles.
With this dramatic purge, the PDP has not only reshaped its leadership landscape but also thrown down a gauntlet: loyalty is no longer optional, and the era of powerful dissenters dictating the party’s rhythm may be coming to an end.
