Ibusa Youths Reject Illegal Leadership Despite Court Orders
The Ibusa Youth Council (IYC) has rejected the recent appointment of an interim youth leadership in the community, calling it illegal and a violation of court orders.
In a statement signed by the Council’s Secretary General, Comrade Olimmah Vincent, the group accused the Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government and the Palace of the Obuzor of working together to install the new leadership without following due process.
According to the IYC, the interim youth leaders were selected secretly at the Obuzor’s Palace without involving the proper youth representatives. They claimed that some of the people chosen are not from Ibusa, while others are known cult members and political loyalists.
“This action disrespects our traditions, ignores court orders, and threatens the peace of our community,” the group said.
The IYC pointed out that court rulings had clearly stopped any new youth leadership from being set up until legal issues were resolved. They described the installation as a show of disrespect for the courts and an abuse of power.
The group also expressed surprise that some respected elders were present at the meeting. They warned that such support for an illegal process could damage the image of traditional leaders and create problems for future generations.
Comrade Vincent said the action could lead to unrest among youths who feel their rights are being ignored. He accused the LGA Chairman of trying to cause confusion and tension in the community.
“We completely reject this illegal move,” he said. “If any violence happens, those who planned and supported this act will be held responsible. We will use every legal and peaceful method to defend our rights.”
The IYC called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Inspector General of Police, and the Director General of the DSS to step in, investigate the matter, and make sure the court’s decisions are obeyed.
They also asked civil society groups and community leaders across Delta State to speak out against what they described as a dangerous trend of imposing leaders without following the law.
“This is not just about youth politics,” the statement said. “It is about respect for the law, the future of our community, and keeping the peace. This injustice must be corrected.”
