A planned act of betrayal within the hospitality sector was swiftly uncovered last week as the Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested a hotel security guard accused of breaking into his own employer’s premises and stealing newly acquired property.
The suspect, identified as Mr. Ifeanyi Nnadozie, was employed as a security staff member at a hotel (name withheld) situated along Afaha Eket Road in Eket Local Government Area. Instead of protecting the premises, he allegedly turned against his duty and orchestrated a quiet daytime heist.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the incident came to light on July 25, 2025, when the hotel’s management reported that their storehouse had been burgled around 2:00 PM, with several brand-new bar chairs mysteriously missing.
What followed was a swift and tactical police investigation. Evidence quickly pointed to Nnadozie, who had been on duty the previous day. Acting on this lead, police operatives moved to search his residence — and there, the missing furniture was recovered, neatly tucked away from sight.
Faced with the evidence, Nnadozie confessed to the crime, admitting that he took advantage of his role as a security officer to access and cart away the items.
“This case highlights the importance of vigilance, not only against external threats but internal compromise,” said DSP Timfon John.
The suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court in the coming days, as the Police Command vows to continue its efforts in cracking down on insider-related crimes and theft within Akwa Ibom communities.
The Command also issued a reminder to businesses and institutions to carry out due diligence and periodic audits, stressing that accountability among staff is key to deterring such breaches of trust.
