Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been thrown into mourning following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
Her passing was announced on Friday, March 27, 2026, by her grandson, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, in a solemn message shared on social media.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah we came and to Him we shall return. I wish to inform the public of the demise of my grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who passed away a few hours ago,” he wrote.
He described the late matriarch as a woman of grace and prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul, calling on well-wishers to remember the family in prayers.
Sources close to the family indicated that Hajiya Umma passed away in Cairo, Egypt, where she had been residing. However, as of the time of filing this report, the family is yet to release an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding her death.
Her death comes at a delicate time for the El-Rufai family, amid ongoing legal challenges involving the former governor.
