In just two years in office, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has embarked on an ambitious road infrastructure drive, constructing and completing 976 kilometers of roads across all 27 local government areas.
This milestone was disclosed in a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Hamisu Muhammed, who revealed that the projects span 74 different road contracts, including both newly initiated and inherited works.
According to the statement, 26 road projects were inherited from previous administrations — many of which were either at early stages or yet to begin. “Governor Namadi ensured the full completion of all 26 inherited roads, thereby connecting hundreds of rural communities to the state’s road network,” Hamisu said.

In addition, the administration launched 48 new road projects, stretching across 976 kilometers, including major highways such as the Maigatari–Babura Road, one of the longest in the state.
Despite economic challenges including high inflation and naira devaluation, the administration has pressed ahead. Of the 48 new projects, 30 are now at advanced stages of completion, with some already delivering relief to commuters and communities.
One standout project is the Sundimina–Birnin Kudu Road, awarded at ₦11.5 billion and completed within just seven months. Other major works include: Sara–Gantsa Road (47km) – underway at a cost of ₦11 billion, 15 feeder roads – at 70–80% completion, Bulangu and Gandun Sarki township roads, plus key Dutse capital road networks – at 60–70% completion
The state government is also repairing failed sections of roads previously damaged by poor construction or flooding. These include: Eastern Bypass, Madobi–Danguli Road, Zakirai–Gujungu–Hadejia Road, Basirka–Gwaram Bridges, Balago–Auno–Kafinsa Hausa Road, Andaza–Aujara Road, Unguwar Mani–Koreyal–Korau–Gwiwa Road and Tsamiya–Yalwan Damai Road
Hamisu further revealed that the Namadi administration inherited ₦82 billion in road project liabilities, of which only ₦32 billion had been paid by the previous government. Governor Namadi’s team has since cleared ₦50 billion, demonstrating fiscal responsibility and a strong commitment to infrastructure delivery.
