FUPRE to Confer Honorary Doctorate on Engineering Mogul, Leemon Ikpea
The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State, will confer an Honorary Doctor of Engineering (Honoris Causa) on Chief Leemon Ikpea, a renowned engineering mogul, on March 15, 2025.
Chief Ikpea, the founder and Chairman of Lee Engineering and Construction Company Limited, was notified of this honor in a letter signed by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Akpofure Rim.
According to the letter, the conferment recognizes Chief Ikpea’s significant contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, particularly his dedication to the development of the Niger Delta.
Recently, Lee Engineering and Construction Company Limited marked its 32nd anniversary. Reflecting on the company’s journey, Chief Ikpea stated:
“For us, integrity is not just a concept—it is who we are. With integrity, every business partner, client, supplier, or vendor seeks you out because they trust you. Who will do business with you if you are not trusted? Integrity is our watchword.”
In further recognition of his contributions, the Senate Committee on Gas also commended Chief Ikpea in a formal letter. The committee acknowledged his extensive investments in the oil and gas industry and stated:
*”We write to commend you for your activities in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria. Our investigation revealed that you have made substantial investments in the industry. We found no infractions associated with your company.
“The committee commends your patriotism and pledges to support you in adding value and creating wealth for the nation.”*
Chief Ikpea’s recognition by both academia and the legislature underscores his impact on Nigeria’s engineering and energy landscape.
