Fulani Nomad Donates Land for School, Receives Recognition from Kano SUBEBIn a significant boost to nomadic education in Kano State, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has honored Malam Usman Idris, a Fulani nomad, for donating his inherited farmland to support education in his community.
The land, located in the Gunduma area of Yalwa Ward, Rano Local Government, has been allocated for the Burtol Nomadic Primary School, which serves children from nomadic backgrounds.
SUBEB Executive Chairman Alhaji Yusuf Kabir, represented at the event by the Director of the Fulani Education Section, Hajiya Hadiza Bature, praised Idris for his selflessness and commitment to the education of Fulani children.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Rano Local Government, Malam Naziru Yau—represented by the Speaker of the Local Government Council, Hon. Abdullahi Jibrin Gidan Zangi—urged community members to emulate the gesture and support government efforts to improve education across the state.
“We commend Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his inclusive education policies and thank citizens like Malam Usman Idris who are helping make these policies a reality,” Yau said.
The Education Secretary for Rano, Alhaji Sani Maigida Rano, and the Supervisory Councilor for Education, Hon. Haruna Adamu Zinyau, noted that the local government is taking cues from the state government by prioritizing education and encouraging community participation.
Speaking on behalf of the Fulani community, Hardo Alhaji Musa Barguma called attention to the poor state of nomadic education in the area and appealed to Governor Yusuf for urgent intervention.
The event was attended by education officials, traditional leaders, Fulani representatives, local councilors, and other stakeholders.
