Fresh Attack in Niger Community Leaves Six Farmers Dead, Sparks Renewed Security Fears

Fresh violence has struck rural Niger State, as at least six farmers were killed in a late-night attack by suspected armed bandits in Unguwar Wawa community, Borgu Local Government Area.
The assailants reportedly stormed the area around 10 p.m. on Friday, opening fire on farmers working on their farmlands before fleeing the scene, according to a report shared on Saturday by conflict journalist Bakatsine.
The deadly incident has plunged the community into grief and heightened anxiety among residents, many of whom now fear further attacks. Rural farmers across the region have increasingly become targets, underscoring the worsening security situation in Nigeria’s agrarian communities.
Locals have renewed calls for urgent intervention by security agencies to protect vulnerable populations in remote areas, while authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
