FCT Minister Urges Nigerians to Embrace Patriotism Through New Campaign
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has expressed optimism that the newly launched “My Nigeria, My Responsibility” campaign will inspire citizen-led initiatives across schools, workplaces, and local institutions nationwide.
Speaking at the campaign’s official launch, organized by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Citizenship and Leadership at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Dr. Mahmoud emphasized that the initiative presents a unique opportunity to strengthen ethical leadership, volunteerism, youth mentorship, and the protection of national assets.
Her Special Adviser on Media, Austine Elemue in a statement quoted her to have described the campaign as both timely and forward-looking, she noted its importance amid the ongoing transformational agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. “Nation-building is not the sole responsibility of government; it requires active participation from individuals, communities, and organizations,” she said.
Dr. Mahmoud highlighted the FCT’s strategic role as Nigeria’s administrative and symbolic center, underlining ongoing efforts to cultivate civic responsibility, community engagement, and a culture of ethical citizenship within the territory.
“Through inclusive policies focusing on security, environmental stewardship, and civic participation, the FCT empowers residents to contribute positively to their communities and the nation,” she said.
She added that the campaign aligns with the administration’s commitment to discipline, rule of law, and social cohesion, and pledged continued support for initiatives that build character and civic consciousness, especially among young Nigerians—the nation’s future leaders.
Dr. Mahmoud described “My Nigeria, My Responsibility” as a critical platform encouraging all citizens, institutions, and leaders to embrace their civic duties and take an active role in national development.
