Easter Horror in Kaduna: Bandits Attack Churches, Kill Seven, Abduct Worshippers

Armed bandits have struck again in Kaduna State, attacking two churches in Ariko community, Kachia Local Government Area, during Easter celebrations, leaving at least seven people dead and several others abducted.
The early morning assault targeted First ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church, sending worshippers into panic as gunmen reportedly surrounded the area and opened fire sporadically.
According to local sources, the attackers operated in large numbers and remained in the community for an extended period without resistance, highlighting persistent security gaps in rural areas.
A councillor representing the area confirmed the incident, noting that casualty figures were still being verified as of press time. He also pointed to poor telecommunications coverage, which may have delayed distress calls and response from security agencies.
Residents described the attack as coordinated and brutal, with several worshippers taken into nearby bushes, while others were killed on the spot.
The incident has deepened concerns over recurring insecurity in southern parts of Kaduna, coming just months after a similar church attack in the same local government area earlier in the year.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, with the police expected to provide further updates as efforts continue to locate the victims and apprehend the attackers.
The latest violence has once again raised urgent questions about the safety of worship centres and rural communities, especially during high-risk periods like religious gatherings.
