DAMA Academy Unveils AI, Blockchain-Powered Health Platform ‘BodyScan AI’ in Abuja

In a bold step toward blending emerging technology with everyday healthcare, DAMA Academy, in collaboration with the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation Centre, has launched BodyScan AI — an artificial intelligence and blockchain-powered health platform designed to transform how Nigerians monitor and manage their wellbeing.
The platform was unveiled during a press conference in Abuja, where the Chief Executive Officer of DAMA Academy, Engr. Nwankwo Prince Ozioma, described the innovation as a practical solution that moves advanced technologies from theory into real-life impact.
“Blockchain delivers secure, transparent, and intermediary-free data handling, while AI brings sophisticated analysis and diagnostic accuracy. Together, they unlock practical applications that can genuinely improve lives,” Ozioma stated.
Smart Health Monitoring in Your Palm
BodyScan AI is a mobile-friendly application built for real-time health monitoring. According to the developers, the platform uses artificial intelligence to analyse user-submitted health data — including images and key health metrics — enabling early detection of potential medical conditions.
The system is designed to support remote monitoring through smartphones, potentially reducing unnecessary hospital visits while empowering users to take proactive control of their health.
Blockchain for Data Ownership and Security
At the core of BodyScan AI is a blockchain infrastructure that stores medical records in a decentralised, tamper-proof format. This structure allows users to retain full ownership of their health data and decide when, how, and with whom it is shared.
Project team members explained that this decentralised approach enhances transparency while significantly reducing risks associated with data breaches and unauthorised access.
Moses Obaje, the UK Coordinator who joined the event virtually, emphasised that blockchain’s encryption and distributed framework are essential for protecting privacy while still enabling aggregated data analytics for research and innovation.
Incentivising Healthy Living
Beyond diagnostics and data protection, the platform introduces a digital asset component that rewards users with tokens for engaging in positive health behaviours. Participants can earn tokens by taking part in wellness activities or consenting to anonymised research use of their data.
These tokens can then be exchanged for consultations, medical supplies, and other healthcare services within the platform’s marketplace — a model the developers say encourages preventive healthcare and sustained user engagement.
A Broader Vision for Innovation
Other members of the project team include Rev. Michael Chuzie Chukwuezie (Coordinator), Prince Paul Audu (Public Relations Officer), and Instructor Victor Ofuyatan.
Organisers noted that while BodyScan AI is primarily focused on healthcare, it also demonstrates how AI and blockchain technologies can enhance governance transparency, strengthen financial systems, and drive innovation ecosystems.
They called on Nigerians — including retirees and young entrepreneurs — to embrace emerging technologies not just as trends, but as practical tools for health management, economic participation, and national development.
With BodyScan AI, DAMA Academy is positioning itself at the intersection of digital innovation and public health — a space where technology meets everyday life.
