Daily Nigerian Publisher Under Probe Over ‘Thieving Aide’ Story

A Kano Chief Magistrate Court has told the police to investigate Daily Nigerian publisher, Jafar Jafar. The order follows reports that called a top government official a “thieving aide” to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The order came from Chief Magistrate Abdul’aziz M. Habib of Court 15, Nomansland. It was based on a complaint by Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo, the Director General of Protocol at Kano Government House.

Rogo indicated that Jafar and another man, Audu Umar, published two stories on August 22 and 25, 2025.
He said the reports were false and meant to destroy his name and that of the Governor

The controversial headlines — one alleging that anti-graft agencies traced ₦6.5 billion to Rogo, and another claiming the Protocol Directorate spent ₦20 billion in just three months — have triggered a fierce backlash from Government House.

Rogo said both stories were lies, written to damage his reputation.

Apart from the police probe, Rogo has also taken a civil case to the Kano State High Court. He is asking for damages against Jafar and Daily Nigerian.

Government officials said the reports were “fiction and blackmail.” They claimed the stories were politically motivated and aimed at weakening Governor Yusuf’s image.

Police have been asked to question Jafar on why he used the word “thief” when investigations by anti-graft agencies were still ongoing.
