In a bid to curb child street begging and strengthen reforms in the Tsangaya education system, the Buji Local Government Council in Jigawa State has donated food items to 25 Tsangaya school teachers (Alarammas) to support the feeding of Almajirai under their care.
The intervention aligns with the Jigawa State Tsangaya Education Board’s vision to modernize and regulate Qur’anic schools, integrating Islamic studies with formal education and vocational training. Tsangaya schools traditionally rely on alms, leaving many pupils dependent on street begging for survival.
Over the weekend, Council Chairman Architect Najeebullah Falalu Tukur distributed 300 bags of 10kg rice and 110 cartons of spaghetti to registered Tsangaya schools. He explained that the initiative, facilitated by Governor Umar Namadi’s administration, ensures proper registration, support, and welfare for both teachers and pupils.
“The goal is to transform Tsangaya education into a structured system that equips pupils with knowledge and practical skills for self-reliance,” Tukur said, adding that the program complements ongoing Ramadan feeding support for Alarammas.
One of the beneficiaries, Malam Suraja Sagu, praised the council and state government for the intervention, praying for Governor Namadi’s wisdom and continued success, citing Qur’anic verses on the virtues of feeding the needy
