Binani Quits APC, Joins ADC in Bold Political Shift

In a dramatic twist to Adamawa’s political landscape, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, has officially dumped the ruling party and pitched her tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The former senator made the announcement in a now-viral video, where she was seen addressing supporters while hoisting the ADC flag. With visible conviction, Binani declared her allegiance to the coalition-aligned opposition party.
“We have embraced the ADC, and we’re ready to move forward under its banner,” she said. “We ask God to separate us from those corrupting the party while pretending to walk with us.”
Binani, who posed one of the fiercest challenges to PDP’s Ahmadu Fintiri in the controversial 2023 governorship race, has remained a vocal political figure in Adamawa State. Her defection is expected to send shockwaves through the APC’s ranks, particularly in the North-East region where she commands a sizable following.
Political observers say the move could be the first in a series of realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as key players grow disenchanted with internal wrangling and alleged sidelining in the major parties.
With this defection, the ADC gains a high-profile figure and possibly a new momentum in Adamawa politics—especially among women and youth blocs who rallied behind Binani’s 2023 campaign.
