Bill for rotation of Guber seat underway at Kogi Assembly – House Speaker

Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf has said that the House Members are seriously considering enactment of a law providing for rotation of the state governorship seat among the three Senatorial Districts.
According to a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Yabagi Mohammed, the Speaker disclosed this in Lokoja on Thursday when he received leadership of Kogi West Ododo/Joel Campaign Council, led by its Director General, Mr Funsho Olumoko.
Speaker Yusuf who emphasized the need to concretise the need for rotation of the Governorship seat in the State said it could only be achieved through the instrumentality of legislation.
He revealed that members of the state House of Assembly had commenced discussions on the matter and were poised to sponsor a bill that would provide for a rotational system.
This, according to him, will give all the Senatorial Districts and various segments in the state a sense of belonging and even development.
The Speaker commended stakeholders in Kogi West for working for the victory of Alhaji Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State Governorship Election and stressed the need for interface with all the contestants from the West Senatorial District for the good of the area.
Earlier, the DG of Kogi West Ododo/Joel Campaign Council, Olumoko, said that the visit was to thank the Speaker and members of the House from the Senatorial District for their encouragement and support during the last electioneering campaign and the subsequent election.
He said that the Campaign Council appreciate and value the contributions of the Speaker to the victory of the Governorship Candidate of the Party, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and expressed optimism that the Governor-Elect will not let the State down.
Olumoko thanked the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and leadership the party for the privilege given him to serve, adding that stakeholders in Kogi West would to come together to support the incoming administration.
retired Commander Jerry Omodara, the State Security Adviser, on his part, emphasized the need for unity among all and sundry in the Senatorial District.
Members of the state Assembly present at the occasion include Princess Omotayo Adeleye-Ishayo of Ijumu constituency; Olawumi Jacob of Mopa-Amuro; Bin-Ebaiya Shehu Tijjani (BEST), Lokoja I and Idrees Aliyu, Kogi Kotonkarfe.
The members commended the Speaker for providing quality leadership and uniting them to deliver the ruling party, APC, in the just concluded Gubernatorial election. (Ends)
