Bala Mohammed Shuts Down Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Loyalty to PDP

Governor Bala Mohammed has firmly dismissed speculations of a possible defection ahead of the 2027 elections, declaring that he remains a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking in Bauchi shortly after Eid prayers, the governor made it clear that talk of his alleged move to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is unfounded, describing the rumours as baseless and misleading.
“I’m going nowhere,” Mohammed stated emphatically, reinforcing his position within the PDP despite the party’s ongoing internal challenges.
His remarks come at a time of heightened political recalibration, with shifting alliances and speculation dominating conversations ahead of the next general elections. But the Bauchi governor struck a tone of stability, expressing confidence that the PDP’s internal issues are resolvable through dialogue and strategic engagement.
According to him, politics must be guided by vision and integrity—not desperation for power. He urged political actors to elevate the quality of discourse, stressing the need for issue-based engagement rather than divisive rhetoric.
Mohammed also warned against heating up the polity prematurely, calling on stakeholders to embrace peaceful coexistence and healthy political competition. He noted that Bauchi’s democratic culture must not be undermined by hostility or bitterness.
“Power comes from God, but the people ultimately decide,” he said, underscoring the importance of respecting democratic choice.
His declaration, coming twice within 48 hours, appears aimed at sending a clear message—both to allies and rivals—that he remains firmly rooted in the PDP as the countdown to 2027 gradually begins.
