Amidst escalating security challenges, Senate commends FG, passes vote of confidence in Service Chiefs

After 10hours of a closed door session the senate on Tuesday night said they were impressed with he determination and Focus of the Security chiefs as they urged them to ensure there is security of lives and properties.
The position of the Senate is coming against the backdrop that Nigerians have become weary over the rate of insecurity that has led to the lost of lives.
Akpabo stated that the Senate is impressed with their determination and focus of the security chiefs as he urged them to do more to ensure security of lives.

The Senate had opted for a closed door meeting with service chiefs earlier after plenary over the issue of insecurity that has defied all solutions because of its sensitive nature

The meeting is coming after it was postponed on Tuesday last week and expanded to include ministers in charge of the nation’s security and the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun.

But while ushering in the strangers (service chiefs and ministers) into the hallowed chamber, Senate leader, Opeyemi Bamidele said they are proceeding into a committee of the whole which will be in a close session.
Also, Senate President Godswill Akpabio had indicated that the interactive session will be in a close door after which they will brief the Nigerian people.
After the closed door session Akpabio

Reading the resolution from the closed door session, Akpabio indicated that the security chiefs and NSA answered questions bordering on security matters.
“The Senate commended Mr. President on his efforts to protect security of lives and property.
Senate also commended Service Chiefs and urged them to follow all the suggestions and revelations and use them for future actions.
“We commend the Security Chiefs and particularly point out that the Interior Minister should use a unified system of identification, that will be a better thing for Nigerians.
“For the security chiefs we assure you if not just the support of Senate but the National Assembly. We pass vote of confidence on the Service Chiefs.

The Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu while briefing the media said
“Today, we listened to them, we related with them, they allayed our fears and answer our questions satisfactorily.
He said they asked the Interior Minister on how to apprehend criminals through standardization of identities of Nigerians
“We got assurances of border patrols that they must be manned seriously.
The finance Minister assured that funds will be released expeditiously to Service Chiefs. We got that pledge.
“We even suggested inviting the Minister of Justice so that we can get speedy trials of criminals..
With what we heard today, we got assurances that Nigerians will heave a sigh of relief.

“Yes, we passed vote of confidence we are impressed with what they have been doing so far. Look at that of Bwari the perpetrators have been apprehended, look at what they are doing in Ekiti and Plateau.
The problem is that the attacks happened sporadically. That’s why we asked them where we can come in, the Minister of Finance will released funds to get all the gadgets they will help in carrying out their mandates
Getting the identity of citizens,

“We want to bring in the Judiciary so that the trial can be expeditiously done
With the efforts of our security men and women, we believe that Nigerians will hieve a sigh of relieve”

Those who were at Tuesday’s meeting are the Chief of Defense Staff, Christopher Musa; National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla; the Chief of the Air Staff,Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar,the Inspector General of Police,Kayode Egbetokun; the Director General of DSS; NIA DG; Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam; and Minister of State for Police Affairs, Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim.

Also, the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun and the Minister of Interior, Hon Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo are in attendance.
