Amaechi Admits He Refused to Support Tinubu
At his 60th birthday celebration in Abuja, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi admitted that he refused to support or vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing personal doubts about the President’s capacity to lead.
However, his public confession has sparked criticism and raised questions about his own political relevance and moral authority.
Amaechi, a two-time Director-General of the Buhari Presidential Campaigns and a former APC stalwart, stated:
“I told Tinubu in Yola, I will not support you; I will not work for you.”
Observers note that Amaechi, who lost the APC presidential ticket to Tinubu in 2022, has grown increasingly distant from the ruling party and has made no secret of his political frustrations.
His remarks were heavy on critique but light on solutions, as he accused the government of weaponizing poverty and mismanaging the proceeds of fuel subsidy removal.
“You that voted Muslim/Muslim ticket, let the Muslim market come out now,” Amaechi said, prompting backlash from some quarters for using divisive language.
.
Meanwhile, supporters of President Tinubu have emphasized that his administration continues to implement tough but necessary reforms, laying the groundwork for long-term economic recovery.
They insist that governance is about results, not rhetoric, and that Amaechi’s remarks are a reminder of the political grievances of those sidelined by the electorate.
