Ajaokuta Lawmaker Donates Solar Power System to Prime FM Jimgbe

A member representing Ajaokuta State Constituency, Jibril, has donated a solar energy system to Prime FM Jimgbe in a move aimed at strengthening media operations and promoting sustainable broadcasting in Kogi State.
The donation, which took place on April 2, 2026, was in fulfilment of a promise made by the lawmaker during a live radio programme last month under the Open Governance Forum.
The intervention is expected to address persistent power challenges faced by the station and enhance its capacity for uninterrupted transmission and effective service delivery to its audience.
Reacting to the development, the Initiative for Grassroots Advancement and the Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), Lokoja, commended the lawmaker for the gesture.
The Executive Director of CHRCR, Idris Miliki Abdul, described the donation as timely and impactful, noting that access to reliable power remains a major constraint for many media organisations.
He urged individuals and corporate organisations to emulate such support, stressing that the media plays a critical role in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance.
“Media organisations are the mirror of society and require consistent support to effectively carry out their constitutional duties and responsibilities,” he said.
Miliki Abdul added that strengthening media institutions, particularly at the grassroots level, is essential for deepening democracy and ensuring that citizens remain informed and engaged.
The solar installation is expected to significantly boost the station’s operations, reducing reliance on alternative power sources and ensuring consistent broadcasting.
Observers say the initiative reflects growing recognition of the need to support media institutions as key drivers of information dissemination and democratic development in the state.
