FCT-IRS Unveils TaxPorta, Bets on Digital Innovation to Boost Tax Compliance

In a major push to modernise tax administration in the nation’s capital, the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has launched TaxPorta, a digital platform aimed at simplifying tax processes, improving taxpayer experience and increasing voluntary tax compliance.
The platform was unveiled on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ engagement with commercial banks and Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) under the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Acting Executive Chairman of FCT-IRS, Michael Ango, described TaxPorta as a transformative digital solution that would make tax administration faster, more transparent and more convenient for taxpayers.
He said the platform enables employers, tax agents and individual taxpayers to seamlessly file tax returns, make payments, generate assessments and access other tax-related services online without cumbersome paperwork.
According to Ango, commercial banks and treasury-funded MDAs occupy a strategic position in the tax ecosystem, making their successful integration into the platform critical to improving compliance and expanding the Territory’s revenue base.
He said the initiative reflects the Service’s determination to leverage technology to build a more efficient and taxpayer-friendly revenue administration system.
“Our goal is to make tax compliance as simple and seamless as possible. Through TaxPorta, taxpayers can access essential services digitally, while the Service is able to deliver faster, more transparent and more efficient tax administration,” he said.
Ango urged residents and organisations in the FCT to embrace voluntary tax compliance, stressing that prompt payment of taxes remains the backbone of sustainable development and improved public service delivery.
He noted that the rapid infrastructure development witnessed across the Federal Capital Territory under the leadership of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has been driven largely by improved revenue generation, adding that continued tax compliance would enable government to sustain the momentum.
“Government requires resources to provide roads, schools, hospitals and other essential public infrastructure. Every taxpayer has a role to play in supporting the continued development of the Federal Capital Territory,” he added.
Earlier, Director of Tax Operations (Corporate, MDAs and International Organisations), Salome Adeyemi, said the Service was committed to ensuring the smooth onboarding of taxpayers onto the new platform while continuously improving service delivery through stakeholder engagement.
She explained that the meeting also provided an avenue for participants to offer feedback that would help refine the platform and strengthen tax administration.
Also speaking, Tax Controller for Commercial Banks and IPPIS MDAs, Hadiza Shettima, said TaxPorta was designed to give taxpayers greater control over their tax obligations by enabling them to process returns, payments, assessments and Tax Clearance Certificates electronically.
She conducted a live demonstration of the platform, guiding participants through the registration process and explaining how users can generate tax assessments in line with the provisions of the new tax law.
The event ended with an interactive session, where stakeholders engaged FCT-IRS officials on the operation of the platform, reflecting the Service’s commitment to collaboration, transparency and a fully digital tax administration system.
