CISLAC/TI-Nigeria Mourns Enoghase, Celebrates Legacy of Integrity in Journalism
The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) and Transparency International Nigeria (TI-Nigeria) have paid tribute to the late Group Business Editor of Daily Independent Newspapers, Sylvester Enoghase, describing him as a journalist whose work strengthened ethical reporting and public accountability in Nigeria.
In a condolence statement, CISLAC Executive Director and Head of TI-Nigeria, Comrade Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, said Enoghase’s death represents a major loss to the media industry, civil society space, and the broader struggle for transparency and good governance.
He noted that the late journalist, who also served as Labour Editor of Daily Independent, built a reputation for credible, in-depth reporting on economic, business, and labour issues, helping to shape national discourse on workers’ rights and socio-economic policy.
Rafsanjani said Enoghase’s journalism consistently reflected professionalism and balance, adding that his work helped amplify concerns around governance, social justice, and accountability in both public and private sectors.
He also highlighted Enoghase’s role as former Chairman of the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN), where he contributed to strengthening collaboration and professional standards among journalists covering labour and employment issues.
According to him, the late journalist maintained constructive engagement with civil society organisations, often contributing to discussions on governance reforms, transparency, and citizen welfare.
Rafsanjani described Enoghase as a disciplined and principled reporter whose humility and commitment to truth earned him respect across the media and advocacy communities.
He extended condolences to the bereaved family, the management and staff of Daily Independent Newspapers, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), LAWAN, and the wider journalism community.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and comfort for all who mourn him.
