Muhammad Abacha Loses PDP Governorship Primary to Dalhatu in Kano

Muhammad Sani Abacha, son of former military Head of State General Sani Abacha, has lost the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Kano State.
The primary, which produced Muhammad Bello Dalhatu as the party’s flagbearer, ended with Dalhatu securing 2,233 votes against Abacha’s 749 votes.
Announcing the result, the Chairman of the PDP Governorship Primary Election Committee in Kano State, Umar Danjani Hadejia, said the exercise was peaceful and conducted in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
He declared Dalhatu the winner, noting that the process was transparent and reflected the will of party delegates.
The outcome means Abacha, who was among the notable contenders in the race, fell short in his bid to secure the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kano State.
Party officials commended delegates, aspirants, and security agencies for ensuring a smooth primary, while also urging unity within the PDP following the contest.
Dalhatu is now set to represent the party in what is expected to be a competitive governorship race in the state.
