PUMA Condemns Killing of General Braimah, Demands Justice for Fallen Soldiers

The Peace and Unity Media Advocacy (PUMA) has strongly condemned the killing of Nigerian Army officer, General Oseni Omoh Braimah, by Boko Haram terrorists in Benisheik, Borno State, describing the attack as barbaric and unacceptable.
In a statement issued in Kano on Monday, the organisation’s Executive Director, Comrade Salihu Othman Isah, paid glowing tribute to the late officer, portraying him as a disciplined, committed, and gallant soldier who served the nation with honour and dedication.
According to Isah, General Braimah exemplified professionalism and courage, approaching every assignment with diligence and passion until his final moments on the battlefield.
PUMA described his killing as “cowardly and barbaric,” stressing that the late general and his men died while bravely confronting insurgents in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty.
“It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge that in his loyalty and commitment to duty, he paid the ultimate price. He stood firm, fought gallantly, and remained steadfast in the face of danger,” the statement read.
The group extended its condolences to the family, colleagues, and the Nigerian Armed Forces, noting that the nation has lost one of its finest officers whose legacy will endure.
PUMA further called for justice, urging the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the attack are apprehended and brought to account.
As part of efforts to immortalise fallen heroes, the organisation advocated for the inclusion of General Braimah and his troops in the Nigerian Army Hall of Fame, noting that such recognition would inspire serving personnel to remain committed in the line of duty.
It also urged the government to provide adequate compensation and support to the families of the fallen soldiers, both from the recent attack and previous incidents linked to insurgency.
While expressing concern that the incident could discourage young Nigerians from enlisting in the military, PUMA encouraged the youth not to be deterred, emphasising that every profession carries inherent risks, particularly in the uniformed services.
The group reaffirmed its solidarity with the Nigerian military and the Federal Government in the ongoing fight against terrorism, insisting that acts of violence by insurgents would not weaken national resolve.
“Boko Haram’s actions will not intimidate us. We will continue to advocate for peace, unity, and security in Nigeria, while calling on authorities to leave no stone unturned in bringing perpetrators to justice,” the statement added.
PUMA also urged Nigerians to remain united and vigilant, and to support ongoing efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace and security across the country.
