KUDA debunks rescue claim, says abducted worshippers still captive

The Kuturmi Unity Development Association (KUDA) has strongly refuted claims that 31 worshippers abducted during an Easter service in Ariko, Kachia LGA, have been rescued, insisting that the victims remain in captivity.
In a statement released from its headquarters in Awon, the association described the widely circulated reports as “entirely false and misleading,” warning that such misinformation distorts the reality on ground and deepens the anguish of affected families.
KUDA revealed that relatives of the abducted individuals are still in contact with the kidnappers, who have reportedly confirmed that the victims are alive and currently held at their camp—directly contradicting claims of a successful rescue operation.
The group expressed concern over the implications of inaccurate reporting, noting that premature or unverified announcements can create confusion, raise false hope, and weaken public confidence in official communication channels.
While acknowledging ongoing efforts by security agencies to tackle insecurity in Kaduna State and across the country, the association stressed the need for caution and accountability in the release of information, especially on matters involving human lives.
“This is a sensitive situation. Information must be verified before it is made public,” the statement emphasized.
KUDA called on the Nigerian Army and other relevant authorities to ensure that all updates provided to the public are factual, transparent, and responsibly communicated.
The association also urged security stakeholders to intensify genuine and coordinated efforts aimed at securing the safe and unconditional release of the victims.
Reaffirming its solidarity with the affected families, KUDA assured that it would continue to provide updates as credible information becomes available, maintaining that the safe return of the abducted persons remains its top priority.
As uncertainty lingers, the development underscores the critical importance of accurate information in crisis situations—where every update carries weight for families, communities, and public trust.
