IWD 2026: Kogi First Lady Calls for Stronger Support for Women
The Wife of the Kogi State Governor, Sefinat Usman Ododo, has called on governments, community leaders and stakeholders to intensify efforts toward empowering women and advancing gender equality across society.
Mrs. Ododo made the appeal while hosting women groups from across Kogi State to mark the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration.
Speaking on the theme, “Give to Gain,” she emphasised the importance of investing time, resources and opportunities in women, noting that such investments are essential for sustainable development and stronger communities.
According to her, educating the girl child and creating opportunities for women are fundamental steps toward building a more progressive and inclusive society.
“When women are empowered with education, skills and leadership opportunities, the benefits extend beyond individuals to families, communities and the nation,” she said.
The Kogi First Lady described the celebration as a call to action for all stakeholders, including government institutions, the private sector and community leaders, to take deliberate steps in promoting gender equality and supporting women’s development.
She noted that empowering women in communities, workplaces and governance structures contributes significantly to economic growth, social stability and national progress.
“When you educate a girl, you raise future leaders. When you give women opportunities, you build stronger families and a better society,” she added.
Mrs. Ododo further stressed that supporting and encouraging women helps strengthen communities, urging citizens to contribute their time, resources and voices to uplift women and protect vulnerable groups.
She also commended Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her commitment to improving the welfare of women through the Renewed Hope Initiative, which she said reflects the values of compassion, inclusion and community development.
