APC Under Pressure as Kogi PDP Records Surge Ahead of 2027

Over 200 members defect as party declares renaissance

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State may be heading for a major political battle ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it is recording a steady influx of defectors and renewed grassroots support across the state.
State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo, disclosed this at the weekend in Lokoja while addressing party members, revealing that over 200 former members of the APC and African Democratic Congress (ADC) are set to rejoin or newly enlist in the PDP in the coming days.
According to him, the growing movement back to the PDP reflects widespread public dissatisfaction with the APC-led administration and a renewed confidence in the opposition party’s capacity to govern.
“The signals we are getting are very clear. Kogi people are tired and they want change. The APC has outlived its usefulness in this state,” Gambo said.
He explained that the PDP has already activated a statewide grassroots mobilisation strategy ahead of 2027, positioning itself as the political platform capable of restoring hope and good governance.
“People keep telling us that our years in government were rewarding. They feel abandoned now, and they want the PDP back in Lugard House,” he added.
Gambo described the party’s current phase as a period of renewal, noting that lessons have been learnt from past setbacks.
“We have reached the lowest point of our political journey, and from here, it is only an upward climb. This is not just a comeback; it is a rebirth and a renaissance,” he said.
The PDP chairman said internal reforms have strengthened the party, with renewed emphasis on internal democracy and grassroots participation.
“Godfatherism has weakened parties in the past. In the new PDP, power belongs to the people. Women and youths are now central to our strategy because democracy is a game of numbers,” he stated.
He further disclosed that sustained stakeholder engagements and community-level consultations are ongoing across the state, expressing optimism that the momentum will translate into electoral victory in 2027.
“With the wave of returns and the enthusiasm we are witnessing, it is clear that the political tide in Kogi State is changing,” Gambo concluded.
