Reuben Okala Appointed Interim National President of IIJAA

The International Institute of Journalism Alumni Association (IIJAA) has appointed veteran broadcaster and media executive, Reuben Okala, as its Interim National President, signaling a renewed drive to reposition the association for greater relevance and impact.
Speaking after his appointment, Dr. Okala expressed appreciation to members for the confidence placed in him, pledging purposeful leadership focused on unity, professionalism and institutional revival.

“I am deeply honoured by this responsibility. Together with the executive, we will work diligently to restore the institute to its rightful place and strengthen the bond among alumni,” he said.
Okala’s emergence is widely viewed as a strategic choice, given his vast experience in broadcast journalism and media administration. His leadership is expected to inject fresh energy into the association’s efforts to promote journalism excellence and continuous professional development.
Patron of the association, Maj. Prof. Aku A. Amboson (rtd), urged the newly inaugurated interim executive to embrace teamwork, innovation and commitment in addressing the challenges confronting the institute.
“The task ahead is demanding, but with dedication and cooperation, the International Institute of Journalism can reclaim its lost glory,” Prof. Amboson stated.
The Interim Executive Committee comprises seasoned professionals drawn from across the media spectrum, including Dr. Prince Omeni (Vice President), Ms. Flora Anne (General Secretary), Ms. Elizabeth Ndem (Assistant General Secretary), Mr. Amadi Uyi (Treasurer), Princess Joy Idam (Legal Adviser), Mr. Felix Ojo (Public Relations Officer), Ms. Charity Ikenwa O. (Assistant PRO), Mahmud Abubakar (Welfare Officer), Ms. Rachel Tokura (Auditor), Ms. Comfort Chukwule (Financial Secretary), and Prophet Anuoluwapo Samuel (Special Adviser).
The IIJAA brings together graduates of the International Institute of Journalism and serves as a platform for advancing ethical standards, capacity building and collaboration within the media profession.

Reuben Okala is an award-winning journalist with over three decades of service at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). He currently serves as Head of Station, KAFTAN TV, Abuja. Observers believe his appointment marks a turning point for the association as it seeks renewed relevance in Nigeria’s evolving media landscape.
