From Danie Abel Lafia
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has appealed to media practitioners in the state to double their effort in the reportage of the numerous achievements of his administration.
The Senior Special Adviser to the governor on Public Affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba gave the indication during a media visit to the Nasarawa state chapter of the correspondent’s chapel.
Ahemba who commended the chapel members for the vibrant discharge of their editorial responsibilities across the state, appealed for a closer collaboration and professionalism in their reportage.
“We thought it wise to embark on a media visit to identify and commend you for the great work you are doing in the state.
“We also appeal to you to redouble your efforts considering the huge accomplishments of Governor Abdullahi Sule in areas of industrialisation and other infrastructural development” Ahemba said.
Responding, the chairman of the state correspondent’s chapel, Mr. Isaac Ukpoju applauded Mr. Ahemba for his visit to identify with the chapel.
Ukpoju appealed to the governor to carry the chapel along for proper coverage of events in the state.
He appealed to the governor not to allow any misgivings that could hamper the good relationship already existing between the chapel and the government.
He noted that the chapel under his leadership has remained united and vibrant in their daily reportage.
He called on the governor to take advantage of the media space the chapel has provided to advance the image of the state and his accomplishments through regular engagement of the chapel in government’s events and programmes.
“We can only report accurately when the government invite and engages the media. But when we are made to take our report from social media and other sources because the government does not engage us as a chapel, what you get may not be the exact report”, Ukpoju noted.
While assuring the governor of the chapel’s readiness to uphold professionalism, hard work in their reportage, Ukpoju appealed for an improved welfare and protection of the chapel members given the present insecurity, economic hardship the country is going through.
