Nigeria Moves from Talk to Action as FG, Private Sector Unite for Inclusive Growth

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its resolve to deepen collaboration with the private sector as part of efforts to drive inclusive growth, create jobs, and build a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

At the 31st Nigerian Economic Summit (NES) in Abuja, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, said the summit marked a turning point in the country’s economic reform journey — shifting from “talks to tangible commitments.”
Director of Information and Public Relations, Mohammed Manga in a statement quoted the Minister to have indicated,
“This summit is about commitments, not communiqués. Its outcomes will be integrated into a time-bound reform matrix within the Medium-Term National Development Plan,” Edun declared.

Edun emphasized infrastructure as the backbone of inclusive growth, citing the Highway Development Management Initiative that targets 5,300 kilometers of new and rehabilitated roads under public-private partnerships — more than double Indonesia’s comparable effort in 2022.

He said the initiative exemplifies the Tinubu administration’s drive to attract private capital, expand critical infrastructure, and position Nigeria as a competitive trade hub across ECOWAS and the AfCFTA.

Beyond infrastructure, Edun identified human capital development as the heart of productivity and inclusive prosperity, reaffirming the government’s investment in health, education, and livelihoods through the National Human Capital Development Programme.

The Minister noted that the summit offered the private sector much-needed clarity on policy direction and reform priorities, assuring that government actions will create a predictable and enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

“Reforms must lead to better living standards and lift millions out of poverty. That’s the true measure of inclusive growth and the promise of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Edun stated.

The 31st NES — convened by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) in partnership with the Federal Government — brought together top policymakers, business leaders, and civil society to craft strategies for economic inclusion, innovation, and sustainable development.
