Yoruba Council, Groups Hail Dangote, Warn Oil Unions against misinformation

The Yoruba Council Worldwide has praised Dangote Refinery’s petrol price cuts and urged oil unions to stop spreading misinformation.
Led by Aare Oladotun Hassan, the council and 30+ civil groups visited the refinery Friday, backing Aliko Dangote amid disputes with DAPMAN, NUPENG, and IPMAN.
“Dangote Refinery is a huge blessing to Nigeria and has come to stay,” Hassan declared.
He accused certain oil cabals of attempting to undermine the refinery’s operations through “hatred, misinformation, misconception, and monopoly cries,” adding that their actions were aimed at exploiting Nigerian citizens through policies like excessive charges on fuel distribution.
Hassan praised Dangote Refinery’s capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, along with its 4,000 CNG trucks, 6,000 cargo trucks, and over 40,000 jobs created. He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to increase tariffs to discourage fuel importation, boost crude oil supply to the refinery, and issue new exploration licenses to revitalise moribund oil wells.
“We implore all Nigerians to rally support for Dangote’s investment, which has already succeeded in reducing the country’s dependence on imports in the sugar and cement sectors,” Hassan said.
“Dangote is a patriotic Nigerian who has provided relief by reducing petrol prices from ₦1,030 to ₦851 and diesel from ₦1,700 to ₦1,020 within a year.”
The delegation also warned DAPMAN, NUPENG, and IPMAN to “stop peddling lies” against the refinery and lauded Mr. Devakumar V. G. Edwin, Dangote Group’s Vice President for Oil & Gas, for representing Alhaji Dangote during the visit.
Following an on-site assessment, the groups rated the refinery as “exceptionally excellent” and meeting global best practices.
They further announced plans to honour Dangote with the Omoluabi Royal Icon title of Aare Atunluse Omoluabi Oodua Agbaye and to present him with the Nigeria Heroes Award as Legend of Democracy during an October 10, 2025, ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
