COSEYL Condemns Attack on PDP Governorship Candidate, Chief Jude Ezenwafor

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the apex sociopolitical youth body in the South East geopolitical zone, strongly condemns the brazen attack on Chief Jude Ezenwafor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2025 Anambra State election.
Chief Ezenwafor was brutally shot by unknown gunmen on Friday night in Wuse 2, Abuja, while returning home from an appointment.
President General of the coalition, Comrade Goodluck Ibem in a statement said the cowardly act is not only an attack on an individual but a direct assault on our democracy, peace, and collective security as a nation.
“We are deeply alarmed by the rising wave of political violence and lawlessness, which threatens the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process. Such barbaric acts have no place in our democracy and must not be allowed to go unpunished.
COSEYL extended heartfelt sympathy to Chief Ezenwafor and his family, and prayed for his speedy and complete recovery as he receives medical attention.
“His courage and commitment to serving the people of Anambra, particularly the youth, must be respected and safeguarded.
“We call on all security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for this despicable act. This incident must not be swept under the carpet.
“It is a test of our institutions’ resolve to defend the rule of law and protect citizens, especially as we approach a crucial election in Anambra State.”
He urged the Federal Government, the Inspector General of Police, and all relevant authorities to beef up security around all political candidates, ensure safe political engagements, and put in place robust mechanisms to prevent future attacks.
“Nigeria’s democracy must not be derailed by fear, intimidation, or violence. We call on political leaders, stakeholders, and citizens to speak with one voice against this trend and promote peaceful, issue-based campaigns.”
COSEYL reaffirmed its total rejection of violence in all forms. We call on our members, youths across the South East, and the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies without delay.
“The time to act is now. Democracy must be defended.”
