Minister of Defence Pays Tribute to Former President Muhammadu Buhari
The Honourable Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his death as a monumental loss to the nation he served with honour and distinction.
President Buhari, who died on Sunday in London, was not only a leader but a soldier, a patriot, and a statesman whose life was defined by courage, conviction, and an unshakable belief in the unity of Nigeria.
Director of Information and Public Relations, Henshaw Ogubike in a statement quoted the Minister to have n a heartfelt message stated:
“On behalf of the Ministry of Defence and the Nigerian Armed Forces, I extend our deepest condolences to the Buhari family, the Government, and the people of Nigeria, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
We mourn a man who dedicated his life to protecting the sovereignty and dignity of our great nation—both in uniform and in public office.”
Badaru praised the former president’s enduring commitment to national security, his relentless pursuit of anti-corruption reforms, and his unyielding dedication to Nigeria’s democratic journey.
“His leadership brought discipline to public service, strength to our military institutions, and a renewed sense of purpose in the fight against insecurity.
He was a pillar of stability in turbulent times and a voice of resolve in the face of national challenges,” the Minister noted.
As the nation lowers its flags in mourning, the Ministry of Defence honours President Buhari’s legacy—a legacy of sacrifice, patriotism, and service beyond self.
“May Almighty Allah grant him eternal rest in Aljana Firdausi and comfort his family, loved ones, and the Nigerian people in this hour of grief,” the Minister concluded.
