Lamido Backs ADC-Led Opposition Coalition, Says Move Is About Patriotism, Not Self-Interes
By Ahmed Rufa’i, Dutse
Former Jigawa State Governor and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Sule Lamido, has declared his support for the emerging opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a patriotic move to rescue Nigeria’s democracy and protect the interest of ordinary citizens.
Speaking in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, Lamido emphasized that the coalition, spearheaded by former Senate President Senator David Mark, is not about selfish ambition or personal gain but about national unity, progress, and restoring hope to Nigerians.
“Any patriotic Nigerian who has the common man at heart must rise to the occasion and help overturn the current administration, which has plunged our people into hardship across all sectors,” Lamido stated.
While pledging support for the ADC-led opposition coalition, Lamido reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the PDP. “I am not leaving the PDP. This is the party we helped to build—one that brought development and hope to Nigerians,” he said.
Lamido, who attended a PDP political gathering organized by Senator Mustapha Khabeeb in Jigawa South West, used the opportunity to introduce ADC State Chairman Alhaji Kabiru Hussaini to PDP members, urging synergy between like-minded opposition forces.
Commending the event’s empowerment initiative, Lamido praised the federal lawmakers for upholding the values of the PDP and working to better the lives of their constituents.
In his remarks, Senator Mustapha Khabeeb announced that over 3,000 constituents would benefit from the empowerment programme, which included the distribution of farming and vocational items worth billions of naira.
He recalled the PDP’s record of achievements between 1999 and 2015, particularly under Sule Lamido’s administration from 2007 to 2015, saying the contrast with the current APC government is stark. “PDP came with progress and development, but today the people are left in poverty,” he said.
Items distributed during the programme included 600 irrigation machines, 100 solar-powered irrigation units, 100 paddy rice threshing machines, sewing machines, grinding machines, 750 spraying kits, and over 3,000 litres of herbicides, among others.
The event highlighted a renewed drive among opposition leaders to collaborate across party lines to address Nigeria’s growing socio-economic challenges and reclaim public trust.
