Betty Otimenyin Makes History as Edo’s First Female Commissioner of Police
Betty Otimenyin has made history by assuming office as Edo State’s first female Commissioner of Police (CP). In her maiden address, Otimenyin expressed her determination to tackle crime in the state, promising a strong focus on reducing violence, particularly against women and children.
“We are committed to combating sex-based violence and protecting vulnerable groups in our society,” she said, reiterating the directive of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to crack down on extortion and other criminal activities.
Otimenyin, who joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), has served in various capacities across several states, including Bauchi, Plateau, Kebbi, Rivers, and Edo. Before her redeployment to Edo, she held a significant position within the Force Intelligence Department (FID) as Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration.
In her new role, Otimenyin is focused on ensuring a safer environment for all Edo residents, emphasizing her commitment to law enforcement and the protection of the state’s most vulnerable citizens.
