Ododo Unveils comprehensive Healthcare Transformation with focus on Grassroots

In a bold move to reshape healthcare delivery, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has unveiled a comprehensive plan to enhance the performance and accessibility of the state’s Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs).

Speaking during a stakeholders’ forum in Lokoja, Governor Ododo, represented by Deputy Governor Comrade Joel Salifu, announced the introduction of periodic spot checks for all PHCs. This oversight initiative, executed by the Primary Healthcare Task Force in partnership with local authorities and traditional rulers, aims to address inefficiencies, enforce accountability, and raise service standards.

“Primary healthcare is the foundation of our health system, and we are committed to ensuring these centers provide effective and accessible services,” Governor Ododo emphasized.
He highlighted the reforms as pivotal in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, improving immunization coverage, and fostering community awareness of healthcare benefits.

The Governor acknowledged the critical support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in advancing state and national healthcare reforms, which he said provided the momentum for Kogi’s initiatives.

State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, detailed ongoing efforts to strengthen the healthcare network. “At least one PHC in each of the 239 wards is operational and funded, and we are working to expand coverage and efficiency,” he said.

Traditional rulers, led by the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, His Royal Majesty Ahmed Tijani Muhammed Anaje, pledged to oversee and support the revitalization of PHCs. “We will ensure these facilities meet the needs of our people,” the monarch assured.

Governor Ododo’s initiative is positioned as a turning point for healthcare delivery in Kogi, prioritizing grassroots communities and establishing a model for other states to emulate.
