Former Imo State Governor, Achike Udenwa, has warned political actors against insulting Peter Obi and using political differences to divide Ndigbo, declaring that supporters of the 2027 presidential hopeful will no longer remain silent.

Udenwa said the silence of Obi’s supporters should not be mistaken for a lack of backing for the former Anambra State governor, insisting that many prominent Igbo figures were supporting his presidential ambition.

“The fact that we have chosen to remain silent does not mean we are not behind him,” Udenwa said.

He expressed displeasure with comments attributed to some government officials in Anambra and Ebonyi states, warning that political disagreements should not become a basis for attacking rival candidates.

“You are free to support your preferred candidate without insulting others. We are not going to allow anyone to divide Ndigbo for selfish interests,” he said.

The former governor disclosed that he was among prominent Igbo leaders who accompanied Obi on a nationwide tour during which they met influential Nigerians across the six geopolitical zones.

Udenwa said his decision to publicly declare support for Obi was not driven by personal political ambition, stressing that he no longer intended to contest any elective office.

“I don’t want to contest for any election again. I am 100 per cent qualified, but because we want a better Nigeria, that is why we want Mr Peter Obi to become President of Nigeria,” he said.

He added that some supporters who had previously kept their positions private were now prepared to speak openly in defence of Obi’s ambition.

Udenwa’s remarks come amid political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with his warning highlighting concerns over personal attacks and divisions among political supporters.
