The prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) abducted in Imo State have regained their freedom.

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, announced the development in a statement issued by his Media Aide, Adeola Oloko, on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, confirmed the release during a telephone conversation with the Olubadan at about 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

The statement, titled “NYSC: The prospective members of the youth service corps, who were abducted have been released,” said the governor personally conveyed the development to the traditional ruler.

However, the statement did not disclose details of how the victims were released or the circumstances surrounding their abduction.

It also did not state the exact number or identities of the prospective corps members involved.

Their release comes amid renewed concerns over the safety of young Nigerians travelling to report for the compulsory national youth service programme.

The incident had heightened calls for stronger security measures to protect prospective corps members, particularly during their movement to orientation camps across the country.
