Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has visited the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, in Abuja, days after Obi’s controversial encounter with security operatives in Benue State.
Ortom used the visit to express solidarity with Obi and raise concerns over what he described as an unacceptable attempt to restrict the presidential candidate’s movement in the state.
The former governor reportedly alleged that President Bola Tinubu was responsible for the decision that prevented Obi from proceeding with his planned movement into Benue.
Ortom said the development was troubling, particularly as political parties and candidates begin preparations for the 2027 elections.
The visit also comes amid growing political debate over Obi’s support base in Benue and the circumstances surrounding his recent visit to the state.
The meeting between the two politicians is expected to further fuel reactions to the incident as the 2027 political contest gathers momentum.
