The Northern Senators Forum has mourned the deaths of the Emirs of Gumel and Zurmi, praising the two traditional rulers for their contributions to peace, unity and development in their communities.
The Forum described the deaths of Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani, CON, Emir of Gumel, and Alhaji Bello Sulaiman, Emir of Zurmi, as a loss to the traditional institution and the people they served.
Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani died on September 3, 2026, while Alhaji Bello Sulaiman died on Monday.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, the Forum said the late Emir of Gumel used his position to promote education, peaceful coexistence and unity throughout his reign.
The senators particularly recalled his support for modern education and girl-child schooling, describing him as a respected voice whose counsel helped guide community and political leaders.
The Forum also highlighted the role of the late Emir of Zurmi during a difficult period of insecurity in Zamfara State.
It said his five years on the throne were marked by efforts to promote peace and strengthen unity and resilience in the Zurmi Emirate.
The senators described both monarchs as important voices within the traditional institution whose influence extended beyond their immediate domains.
The Forum said their commitment to peace and community development would remain part of their legacy.
It extended condolences to the families of the deceased monarchs, the Gumel and Zurmi Emirate Councils, and the governments and people of Jigawa and Zamfara states.
The Northern Senators Forum prayed that Almighty Allah forgive their shortcomings, accept their good deeds and grant them Aljannah Firdaus.
